The sugar cane crop had out done itself all summer. It had grown at a rate that none had seen before, towering high, in some cases reaching 10 foot tall. The extreme tallness and the heavy tops on the cane was part of the problem as the storms rolled through last Tuesday morning. The top heavy cane came crashing down with the wind and rain. As shown above, a large round circle was flattened in the middle of the field. The Lord has still left us with plenty of cane. The Heritage Festival is set to kick off on Oct. 7th. Construction is also currently underway by pouring a new concrete floor in the cane panning area, and the addition of gas burners.

The planning is underway for this year's Heritage Festival. The Sugar Cane may be the best ever raised. Brother Herman Patrick says the yield should be tremendous, as the cane patch is growing thick and tall. The family oriented festival which includes gospel music concerts, foods traditional to the mountains, games, and other vendors will be present to insure a full day of family fun. The festival will be held on Oct. 7th. Make plans to come out and visit us.
Saturday, August 19th is a workday at the Lakefront Church of God. We have several projects to complete: Project #1 will be the erection of the formal church sign out front. This is a large structure and will require several to do it. Project #2 will be the pouring of the new pad at the cane mill down on the creek bank. Project #3 will be working with pallets to build items for the silent auction of the upcoming Fall Festival to be held Oct. 7th. There will be a cookout for everyone's lunch.Come on out and help us if you can.
In an effort to saturate the local market with food to assist in helping families spare some extra cash for school supplies, God's food pantry dropped a 45 foot box trailer full of watermelons, bread, cabbage, tomatoes, and potatoes at Lakefront on August 12th. Operation Beat the Summer Heat will be held on 8/12/17 where local families can come in and get free produce for their families.
The pantry is always in need of your plastic shopping bags from the supermarket to bag food in. We would appreciate the communities' help in saving those bags. If you can save the bags and drop off at the church anytime of the month your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Regular food pantry will be held on August 22nd and 23rd. |
