Brother Shawn Stephens always greeted the clients with a warm smile and kind words. If there was work to be done at Lakefront, Shawn wanted to be involved. From working on the church grounds, maintenance, or in the Water Into Wine Food Pantry, you could always look for Shawn to show up with a willingness to help. No matter where Shawn went, he left it a better place than he found it.
Brother Shawn Stephens passed away far too young in April. Following a workday at the church, and two days after the pantry that he loved so well, Shawn went home to be with Lord unexpectedly. In memory of his hard work and dedication to family, friends, and strangers...the church was presented with a canvased photo of Shawn taken two days before his death. The canvas was donated by Rose & Doug Patrick. The canvas was placed on the memorial wall outside the sanctuary entry facing down the hallway. Shawn now appears to be looking into the halls he so loved to work. Rest in peace our friend. You have earned your place. On June 29th, 2017, The Food Immunity Bill, will go into effect. This new bill passed in Kentucky will do away with law suites that are filed against farmers, pantries, and others entities that donate food to the hungry should the consumer get sick. Currently the Water Into Wine Food Pantry has a local farmer who is bringing dozens of farm fresh eggs in each month to hand out to food pantry clients.
Under the new program, local farmers will be able to harvest excess eggs, vegetables, and fruits and take to the Water Into Wine Food Pantry. Once there, the food will be processed and valued, whereas a receipt will be issued to the grower. This in turn allows the farmer to receive a tax deduction on farm donations. If you have questions regarding this program, please feel free to call us at 606-349-6301. Once food is processed, it will be distributed as other products are distributed. In turn, this will result in neighbor feeding neighbor fresh from the farm. Read more about the Food Immunity Bill here: The men of the church have worked the last two days preparing the sugarcane crop for this year's Fall Festival. On June the 7th, they tilled and disk the soil in preparation for sowing. On June the 8th, they actually put the seed in the ground. They will then go forward and fertilize the ground. Soil moisture, sunshine, and the weather in general will play a grand role in the scheme of things over the next few months to determine what this year's sorghum will be like. It truly is in the Lord's hands.
