As the numbers of clients that the Water Into Wine Food Pantry serves, so has the need for assistance during the distribution of supplies on the monthly distribution day. As the economy continues to struggle in post recession times, the pantry has grown to over 500 families per month in the Magoffin County area.
Job Corps students visited the food pantry, and assisted with operations February as part of job shadowing. Instructors, Shirley Bryant & Carol Osborn, were so impressed with the operations and the benefit of having their students volunteer, that they returned to the center and were given permission to return for the March distribution. While volunteering, the students have the opportunity to socialize with Magoffin County residents while pushing groceries to their vehicles. Students also assist in bagging essential food items to be distributed. There is even a place in the kitchen for Culinary Arts students as they assist with the volunteer luncheon that is prepared for the volunteers. Pastor Larry Patrick said that its wonderful for both Magoffin County and Job Corps to work together. Anytime young people can participate in such a noble cause- good will breed good. It truly is a win- win situation.

Nearly 5 years ago, a tornado found its way through the mountains and hit Salyersville, doing damage to businesses and home. On Thursday, dark clouds once again cluttered the sky, while the winds and rains roared through the valleys. Neighbors of the church suffered minor property damage as straight line winds tore apart metal buildings and peeled tin and siding from homes. Several took shelter inside of the church, where no damage to the structure was recorded. We give thanks and praise for keeping His hand of protection over our church and community as no injuries were reported.
